【摘要】:Manyphysicalandappearancepropertiesofthefinishedcoatingareaffectedbythefilmthickness.Filmthicknesscanaffectthecolor,gloss,surfaceprofile,adhesion,flexibility,impactresistanceandhardnessofthecoating.Thefitofpiecesassembledaftercoatingcanbeaffectedwhenfilmthicknessisnotwithintolerance.Thereforecoatingsmustbeappliedwithincertainminimumandmaximumfilmthicknessspecificationstooptimizetheirintendeduse.Allproceduresinvolvetakingmeasurementsofappliedcoatingpowdersinthepre-cured,pre-gelledstatetohelpinsurecorrectcuredfilmthickness.Thisenablestheapplicationsystemtobesetupandfine-tunedpriortothecuringprocess.Inturn,thiswillreducetheamountofscrapandover-spray.Accuratepredictionshelpavoidstrippingandre-coatingwhichcancauseproblemswithadhesionandcoatingintegrity.Measurementsofcuredpowdercoatingthicknesscanbemadeusingdifferentmethodsdependinguponthesubstrate.Non-destructivemeasurementsovermetalsubstratescanbemadewithmagneticandeddycurrentcoatingthicknessgages(seePracticeD7091).Non-destructivemeasurementsovernon-metalsubstratescanbemadewithultrasoniccoatingthicknessgages(seeTestMethodD6132).Destructivemeasurementsoverrigidsubstratescanbemadewithcross-sectioninginstruments(seeTestMethodD4138).1.1Thispracticedescribesthethicknessmeasurementofdrycoatingpowdersappliedtoavarietyofsubstrates.Useofsomeoftheseproceduresmayrequirerepairofthecoatingpowder.Thispracticeisintendedtosupplementthemanufacturersinstructionsfortheoperationofthegagesandisnotintendedtoreplacethem.Itincludesdefinitionsofkeyterms,referencedocuments,thesignificanceanduseofthepractice,andtheadvantagesandlimitationsoftheinstruments.1.2Threeproceduresareprovidedformeasuringdrycoatingpowderthickness:1.2.1ProcedureA-Usingrigidmetalnotched(comb)gages.1.2.2ProcedureB-Usingmagneticoreddycurrentcoatingthicknessgages.1.2.3ProcedureC-Usingnon-contactultrasonicpowderthicknessinstruments.1.3Coatingpowdersgenerallydiminishinthicknessduringthecuringprocess.Theseproceduresthereforerequireareductionfactorbeestablishedtopredictcuredfilmthicknessofpowdercoatings.1.4ProcedureAandProcedureBmeasurethethickness(heightordepth)oftheappliedcoatingpowdersinthepre-cured,pre-gelledstate.Bycomparingresultstothemeasuredcuredpowderthicknessinthesamelocation,areductionfactorcanbedeterminedandappliedtofuturethicknessmeasurementsofthesamecoatingpowder.1.5ProcedureCresultsinapredictedthicknessvaluebasedonacalibrationfortypicalcoatingpowders.Ifthepowderinquestionisnottypicalthenacalibrationadjustmentcanbemadetoaligngagereadingswiththeactualcuredvaluesasdeterminedbyothermeasurementmethods.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
